    It was a merit scholarship for students in my major — to apply, they required transcripts and a personal statement. I wove a fabulous story about how Technical Writing is the culmination of all my experiences in life… which isn’t far from the truth.

    To be fair, it wasn’t a large application pool. My major is pretty small–which strikes me as strange, considering it’s the only four-year tech writing program in the state of California.

    I just got the following note from one of my classmates:

    “I heard it was neck and neck between you and I for the scholarship, but the board really really favors people who do their homework on time. Go figure.”
