Please keep its age in mind while reading.<\/div><p>So, you&#8217;re in a conversation with someone who&#8217;s clearly not noticing the confused look on your face. This person has gone off on a long-road tangent and is using words and acronyms that you&#8217;ve never heard before.   <strong>What do you do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are my suggestions (besides, you know, the obvious blank stare or &#8220;could you explain that?&#8221; responses):<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) The Brush-Off <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/xkcd.com\/178\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/imgs.xkcd.com\/comics\/not_really_into_pokemon.png\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Variations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Nah, I&#8217;m not really a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cerado.com\/web20quiz.htm\">Star Wars geek<\/a>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Sorry, I don&#8217;t speak Swedish.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2) The Signal<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sarahdopp.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/spock2.jpg\" title=\"spock2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sarahdopp.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/spock2.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"spock2.jpg\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Some friends and I have been trying to introduce the convention of throwing &#8220;star trek fingers&#8221; as a non-verbal signal that you need a definition.  It&#8217;s less interruptive and more respectful.
